On May 19, 2004, the New Frontier Democratic Club, New Frontier Young Democrats and the Western Regional Director of the NAACP sponsored an event to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. This landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision struck down the "separate but equal" doctrine and overturned legal segregation in the nation's public schools. The event was held at the California African-American Museum. Educators from throughout Los Angeles County were honored for their contributions to the field of education.
